PERFECT FOR SIX YEARS--Today is the first day of school
at North Park’s all boy St. Augustine High School. Doesn’t it seem school
begins earlier and earlier each year?
As the new
school year is upon us, an interesting statistic has emerged from at the Saints
most recent graduation in late May.
Six years
ago, Saints Scene, the
parent/faculty/community newspaper at St. Augustine, asked the school what percentage
of students, who graduate went on to attend a college or university? The
results were—frankly—impressive. For the
past six years, including 2014, 100 percent of every class, including 174 grads
this year went to or are going to college.
Yes, Saints
(founded in 1922) is a private high school, but many parents, who shell out
tuition in addition to paying taxes like everyone else for public education,
say it is worth the expense, especially if their offspring make it to college.
Saints
grads will be attending colleges and universities covering all four corners off
the country, including Hawaii. Several are attending institutions in Mexico.
As many
expect, 12 grads will become Aztecs at San Diego State, but almost as many (11)
will attend the University of Arizona.
College
choices for Saintsmen are just as diverse as the make up of the Class of
2014.
